dear quarantine crush: a rap song

Photo by Gabrielle Henderson on Unsplash

inspired by unrequited moments

and can’t stay quiet

so I just wrote it

all down

didn’t want to hit send

so looks like I’ll just share them with friends

and. YOU.

(if you can guess who)

Cuz you got me tongue-tied

For the first time,

In all my life,

Never knew what it felt like to be shy

Until I met you

Now I can’t forget you

And I just bet you

Think I never have anything good to say

But you’re the one that’s getting in my way

And I’m just trying so hard to make you stay

Drawing these blanks every single day

You know, I used to be funny and witty

Before I met you

I know — hard to believe

Cuz you never see that side of me

I’d impress the best of them

And stress them

Without breaking a sweat

And now you got me losing my senses,

Going ‘round in my head

Can’t finish my sentences,

So I’ll just smile instead

And all I can do is sit here and look pretty

Hoping that maybe, just maybe, you’ll notice me

Cuz I’ve lost my voice

No, it’s not coming back

Yeah, I miss those days

When I knew how to react.

Cuz you got me tongue-tied

For the first time,

In all my life,

Never knew what it felt like to be shy

Until I met you

Now I can’t forget you

And I just bet you

Think I never ever got nothing good to say…

But no — it’s your fault.
